Guide to Koh Samui

Dhevatara Cove in Lipa Noi

Early April I decided that I needed a beach getaway, my usual choice was Bali but it was getting real overcrowded and I wanted something quiet. So I did some research and Koh Samui seems like a good option. The beaches were beautiful and I love thai food- sounds pretty go to me! I booked my flight and selected my accommodation via Luxenomad which had a great list of villas and with not really an itinerary in mind we flew to Koh Samui. We got airport pick up arranged by the villa and after a quick drive we arrive at Dhevatara Cove in Lipa Noi right by Baan Rattana Thep beach.

Island Hopping

Dhevatara Cove was located right on a private beach. Our villa manager arranged for us a massage and our chef cooked us an amazing thai lunch. We had spotted a few islands while walking on the beach earlier and found out that we could hire a speed boat, nothing fancy which cost us probably $60 for half a day to take us around for a tour of the island and go snorkeling! One of the island we stopped by had a bar where we got some ice cream and wild pigs that were surprising friendly.

Samui Elephant Sanctuary

I've always dream about interacting with elephants but was also aware of how terrible the elephant tourism industry is. Samui Elephant Sanctuary is the first elephant sanctuary in Koh Samui, they offer a retirement home for elephants who have worked exhausting hours in the logging and tourism industries! For 3000bhat we got a tour of the sanctuary, observe the elephants as they rolled in the mud pit and walked around freely.

Dhevatara Residence in Bophut (Baan Ban Buri’s beach)

Our second villa was right in the city center, we were walking distance if not a 5 mins drive to all the restaurants and bars. Everything was white and modern, completed with an infinity pool facing the beach. It was tempting to stay in because we had such a great view of the sunset!

Fisherman's Village

This is where we ate bugs, yes bugs on a stick. But if that's not what you're looking for that's lots of other options from fresh coconut ice cream to ribs from the food stands. If you're looking for something a little fancier I'd recommend Art of Life Seafood & Oyster bar, Pepenero Italian restaurant and lounge, also Sakura Samui Spa for a great massage!
